Lord Crewe Arm’s Story

The hotel is named after Lord William Crewe, a prominent politician and former Bishop of Durham who owned the property in the early 1900s. The Lord Crewe Arms dates back to the 12th century and was originally a medieval abbey.

The property has been extensively renovated and refurbished over the years but still retains many original features, including a vaulted crypt and a medieval fireplace.

Today, the Lord Crewe Arms is a popular destination for visitors to Northumberland and is known for its luxurious accommodations, award-winning restaurant, and charming village location.

The hotel’s restaurant, The Bishop’s Dining Room, serves contemporary British cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients. There is also a traditional pub, The Crypt Bar, which offers a selection of local ales and classic pub fare.

Being located in the heart of Northumberland National Park, it is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside. Popular activities in the area include hiking, cycling, and fishing, and the hotel can arrange outdoor activities and tours for guests.

The Lord Crewe Arms is part of the Calcot Collection, group of award-winning luxury hotels, inns restaurants and spas across the Cotswolds and Northumberland, all of which are run on HART PMS. Lord Crewe itself has been a part of the HART family since 2012.
